After a year away from the ring, Michael Conlan is determined to continue his pursuit of a world title. The Belfast boxer, a two-time world title challenger, is looking forward to his return with renewed ambition. Conlan’s goal remains clear: to capture that elusive world championship belt that has so far slipped through his grasp.

Plans for a Busy Year Ahead

Conlan announced his return to boxing with plans for a comeback fight in March 2025, likely in an 8-10 round fight to shake off the rust. He is targeting a busy year ahead, aiming for a total of four fights in 2025, as he continues his quest for greatness. “It will be a busy one, which I need after a nice break and now I’m back at it,” Conlan shared with BBC Sport NI.

A Career Full of Setbacks and Comebacks

Over the past few years, Conlan has faced setbacks, with three career losses, all by stoppage. These defeats, particularly his losses to Leigh Wood and Luis Alberto Lopez, have not dimmed his belief in his ability to become world champion. However, his shocking loss to Jordan Gill in December 2023 raised questions. Despite a strong start, Conlan was unable to maintain his momentum and was ultimately stopped in round seven.

“The loss to Jordan Gill was a setback, but I know what I’m capable of,” Conlan admitted. “It’s just a matter of putting things together again and getting back to where I was before.” His decision to take a year off allowed him time for reflection, and he is returning with a renewed sense of purpose under the guidance of new trainer Grant Smith.

A Renewed Focus on the World Title

Despite the challenges, Conlan’s desire to become a world champion has never wavered. “Winning a world title is the only reason I’m still boxing,” he said. “I still want to be a world champion, and I still believe I have the ability to go and do that.” Conlan’s career has been full of high moments, from fighting in front of passionate home crowds in Belfast to headlining in New York around St. Patrick’s Day. He has even come close to winning a world title, with his first attempt at world honors in 2022 leaving him ahead on all three scorecards before a devastating knockout loss.

The Comeback Begins: New Trainer, New Goals

However, Conlan is not satisfied with his past achievements. The 33-year-old believes he still has plenty to offer, and his hunger for a world title remains the driving force behind his comeback. “I’ve learned a lot from my losses,” he added. “But I’ve also learned a lot about myself, and I believe I can come back stronger than ever.”

Looking Forward: Fans Await Conlan’s Next Move

As Conlan prepares for his comeback, boxing fans will be watching closely to see how the Belfast native bounces back. With a new trainer and a clear focus on becoming a world champion, Conlan’s return is set to be one of the most exciting storylines in the boxing world for 2025.
