Shock: Djokovic Falls Out of the Top Three Grand Slam Seeds?

Novak Djokovic will fall out of the top three Grand Slam seeds for the first time since 2018, as he is ranked seventh for the 2025 Australian Open.

After 22 consecutive Grand Slam events, Djokovic will once again face the reality of not being among the top seeds – those considered the strongest contenders for the title. This year, the Serbian tennis star will be seeded seventh at the Australian Open, meaning he could potentially face a top-4 seed as early as the quarterfinals. Djokovic’s path in the early rounds will be more complicated and riskier.

Djokovic Faces Disappointment in Brisbane

Djokovic suffered a disappointing loss after a crucial point in his match against Reilly Opelka at the Brisbane International last week. This was a blow for the 37-year-old after a disastrous 2024, in which he went through a 13-month winless streak on the ATP Tour. This poor performance has dropped Djokovic to seventh place in the world rankings.

Top Seeds’ Consistent Form

The top seeds at the 2025 Australian Open are Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, and Taylor Fritz. These players had the most consistent performances last season, regularly making deep runs in Grand Slam tournaments and other major events. They are expected to be Djokovic’s biggest challenges in his pursuit of his 11th Australian Open title.

Tight Competition in the Top 8

Other players in the top 8 seeds include Daniil Medvedev, Casper Ruud, and Alex de Minaur. The Australian Open draw ceremony will take place on January 9, and the tournament will officially begin three days later.

Women’s Singles Race Gets Intense

In the women’s singles, the top seed is defending champion Aryna Sabalenka. The Belarusian player will aim to become the first to win three consecutive titles since Martina Hingis in 1999. Sabalenka will also need to reach at least the quarterfinals to retain her world number one ranking.

Other players in the top 8 seeds include Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, Jasmine Paolini, Zheng Qinwen, Elena Rybakina, Jessica Pegula, and Emma Navarro.
