Valencianas bet on youth for the new season, all efforts are put into this new season. Hope their efforts will be rewarded

A Promising Return

Valencianas de Juncos, one of the most promising teams in the 2025 Superior Women’s Volleyball League (LVSF), is gearing up for the new season with confidence and determination. After showcasing significant potential in the previous season, the team aims to further their development and solidify their position in the competition.

Despite a challenging previous season, Valencianas managed to capture the attention of fans and experts alike. Although eliminated in the semifinals by Cangrejeras de Santurce—who went on to claim the championship—the team demonstrated resilience and a spirited playing style. Their journey isn’t just about participating but about proving their worth.

Eyeing the Finals

Head Coach Gerardo De Jesús, at the helm for three years, has set ambitious goals for the upcoming season. “In the first year, we were eliminated in the quarterfinals; in the second year, we made it to the semifinals. This year, the goal is the finals,” De Jesús shared. He emphasized the importance of using the regular season to establish strong positioning and foster team cohesion. “We need to rack up wins and, most importantly, stay healthy and build rhythm for the quarterfinals.”

The Valencians’ strategy goes beyond mere advancement; it aims to showcase their strength and unrelenting desire to win. One notable area for improvement is their depth on the bench. “We were slightly weak in that area last season. This year, we’ve added depth, which we really like,” said De Jesús. Strengthened by new players and tactical adjustments, the team is better equipped for the crucial matches ahead.

Key New Signings

Valencianas’ management has worked hard to reinforce their roster, announcing the signing of middle blocker Alexia Kuehl. A member of Germany’s U-23 national team, Kuehl earned accolades such as Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week twice while playing for the University of Colorado in the NCAA. Her arrival promises to bolster the team’s defence and instill confidence across the lineup.

Standout Foreign Players

In addition to Kuehl, Valencianas has brought on board outside hitter Jaelyn Hodge from the University of Arizona and American outside hitter Gabby Gonzales. These players bring a wealth of experience and skill, adding a competitive edge to the team. Hodge’s versatility in both defence and attack is expected to be a vital asset during challenging matchups.

Core Contributors

This season, Valencianas will see the return of Elissa Alcátara, the Rookie of the Year, who is now an integral member of Puerto Rico’s national women’s volleyball team. The anticipated comeback of Kelly Sánchez in the attacking role is also a significant boost for the team. Sánchez delivered impressive performances in the previous season, and her return is expected to inspire her teammates.

Reinforcements from the Draft

Valencianas has further strengthened their lineup through the draft, acquiring key players such as setter Naomi Cabello, middle blocker Adriana Rodríguez, libero Yaidaliz Rosado, and opposite hitter Seliann Concepción. These additions enhance the team’s flexibility and tactical options, allowing the coach to adapt strategies dynamically in different matches.

The League’s Youngest Team

Valencianas is proud to be the youngest team in the league, with all players under 24. Despite their youth, the team is firmly focused on winning. “Regardless of names or ages, our goal is to win every game,” De Jesús emphasized. Their youthfulness and energy will be major assets as they face the challenges ahead. Valencianas are set to debut in the new season against Criollas de Caguas next Friday, January 17, at Coliseo Roger Mendoza in Caguas. This opening match provides an excellent opportunity for them to showcase their strength and potential.

Emphasis on Team Spirit

Team spirit is a crucial factor in Valencia’s success this season. Coach De Jesús has prioritized creating a positive environment where every player feels valued and can contribute to the team’s overall success. “We’re focusing on building cohesion among the players,” he explained. A united team is better equipped to overcome obstacles and handle the pressures of competition.

Challenges Ahead

The road won’t be easy for Valencianas, as they will face many strong and experienced teams. However, with thorough preparation and high morale, they are well-positioned to surprise their opponents. De Jesús highlighted the importance of maintaining their resolve and striving for daily improvement: “We’ll keep working hard, day by day, toward our ultimate goal.”

Ready for a Thrilling Season

With a youthful squad, impactful new additions, and a strong sense of team unity, Valencianas de Juncos is poised for a season full of promise. The combination of experience and enthusiasm will be key in overcoming the challenges ahead. Fans can look forward to inspiring performances as Valencianas embarks on their quest for the LVSF 2025 title. Stay tuned and support them on their journey to greatness!
