Novak Djokovic’s Sweet Revenge, Advances to Round 4 of the Australian Open 2025
Novak Djokovic successfully avenged his previous loss to Tomas Machac, securing a dominant straight-sets victory with scores of 6-1, 6-4, 6-4, and advancing to the fourth round of the Australian Open 2025.
Sweet Revenge
Djokovic had previously fallen to Machac in the semifinals of the ATP 250 Geneva Open in May 2024. This time, the Serbian star not only settled the score but also “added interest” against the world number 25.
In the first set, Djokovic initially missed three break point opportunities in Machac’s opening service game. However, he quickly turned the tide, breaking Machac’s serve twice in games 4 and 6 to comfortably close the set with a commanding 6-1 win.
A Thrilling Second Set
The second set was more competitive, with Djokovic and Machac exchanging breaks during the first three games. Djokovic then secured another break in game 5. In the decisive 10th game, Machac had a chance to even the score but squandered the opportunity, allowing Djokovic to seal the set 6-4.
Dominance in the Third Set
Djokovic started the third set strong, breaking Machac’s serve in the opening game. He created two additional break points but couldn’t convert them. On the other hand, Machac was unable to reclaim the break, and Djokovic held his nerve in the final service game to clinch the set 6-4.
Next Opponent
The match concluded after 2 hours and 22 minutes, marking a significant win for Djokovic. In the fourth round, he will face another Czech player, Jiri Lehecka, the tournament’s 24th seed. With his current form, Djokovic remains one of the top contenders for the Australian Open 2025 title.
