Novak Djokovic Admits: ‘I Was Just Lucky to Beat Federer at Wimbledon 2019!
Novak Djokovic has admitted that luck was on his side when he defeated Roger Federer in the legendary 2019 Wimbledon final, one of the most intense and memorable matches in tennis history.
In an interview with Serbian media, Djokovic shared:
“In that match, Federer was the better player. Look at the stats—he outperformed me in almost every aspect. Roger had break points and served for the match. At 40-15, I was just trying to make his win harder. That was the most intense match of my career, and I was just lucky to find a way to win in the end.”
The 2019 Wimbledon final in England saw Djokovic beat Federer after a grueling five-set battle with scores of 7-6, 1-6, 7-6, 4-6, 13-12. It was the first Wimbledon final ever to be decided by a long tie-break. At that time, Djokovic was still trailing Federer and Nadal in the race for Grand Slam titles.
