George Kambosos Jnr, the former lightweight champion, has signed a major co-promotional agreement with Matchroom Boxing, DiBella Entertainment, and Ferocious Promotions. This exciting deal sets the stage for his comeback as he moves up to the junior welterweight division, targeting an early 2025 return to the ring. While the specifics of his next fight remain unannounced, this new partnership opens the door to some thrilling matchups in one of boxing’s most competitive weight classes.

Kambosos Shifts Focus to 140lbs Division

After his stunning win over Teofimo Lopez at Madison Square Garden in 2021, Kambosos (21-3, 10 KOs) became a breakout star in the boxing world. His victory earned him the unified lightweight titles, but his reign was short-lived. He lost those belts to Devin Haney in 2022 and faced another defeat in their rematch later that year. Despite these setbacks, Kambosos is determined to make a comeback and is now setting his sights on the 140lbs division.

The 31-year-old Australian boxer has fought under Matchroom’s banner before, including his memorable victory against Lee Selby, which solidified his place among the elite. With this new co-promotion, Kambosos is eager to prove that he can achieve even greater success at junior welterweight, a division filled with some of boxing’s toughest fighters.

The 140lbs Division: A Competitive Battlefield

The junior welterweight division is currently one of the most competitive in boxing, with top talent competing for dominance. Matchroom’s chairman, Eddie Hearn, is excited about Kambosos’ potential in this stacked weight class. He highlighted Kambosos’ ability to perform on the big stage, pointing to his upset win over Lopez as proof that he thrives in high-pressure situations. Kambosos has already built a strong following in Australia, making him a major draw for fans worldwide. A possible showdown with Liam Paro, another top Australian fighter, could be on the horizon if Paro wins his upcoming fight on December 7, adding even more excitement to the division.

Lou DiBella, president of DiBella Entertainment, also praised Kambosos’ commitment to taking on challenges. He believes this partnership between Matchroom and DiBella Entertainment is a natural fit, especially with the growing interest in Australian boxing talent. Kambosos is ready to prove he can make another run at a world title, with his eyes firmly set on 2025 as the year he reclaims his spot among boxing’s elite.
