Djokovic Reveals His Father Urged Him to Retire
Novak Djokovic recently revealed that he has received numerous suggestions to retire, with his father being the first to urge him to make this decision.
At 37 years old, Djokovic remains one of the greatest tennis players in history, boasting 99 ATP titles and 24 Grand Slam championships. At the 2025 Australian Open, he reached the semifinals but was forced to withdraw after the first set against Alexander Zverev due to injury.
Djokovic Speaks About His Future
Djokovic’s withdrawal has once again sparked doubts about his form and physical condition. Many experts believe it is time for him to step aside for the younger generation.
In a recent interview, Djokovic shared:
“I feel like people have been writing my ‘tennis obituary’ for quite some time now. The first person to do so was my father. He has been trying to convince me to end my career.”
“He has urged me to retire for a while now. However, he respects my decision. My father often asks me what more I want to achieve. He sees that stress and fatigue are taking a toll on me, both mentally and physically.”
Djokovic Withdraws from Davis Cup, Awaiting His Return
As he has not yet fully recovered from his injury, Djokovic has withdrawn from the Davis Cup to focus on his rehabilitation. His goal is to return to the court at ATP Doha, which is scheduled for mid-February.
With mounting pressure from age and expectations, will Novak Djokovic continue to chase new heights, or will he listen to his family’s advice and bring his legendary career to a close?
