McLaren Thanks Mercedes For Helping Limit Damage In F1 Race

Andrea Stella Comments on Mercedes’ Role

Andrea Stella , McLaren team principal, has publicly thanked Mercedes for playing a key role in limiting damage to the Woking- based team during the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix . The race result, with Mercedes taking first and second place , helped McLaren relieve pressure from rival Ferrari.

In the race at Sin City , George Russell took the lead, with Lewis Hamilton finishing just behind, while Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc finished third and fourth. Although McLaren did not achieve the results they had hoped for, with Lando Norris sixth and Oscar Piastri seventh, the team maintained their position in the championship fight.

Championship Damage

The result in Las Vegas cost McLaren 12 points in the championship , reducing their lead over Ferrari from 36 points to just 24 , with only two races left of the season. “It’s disappointing to lose points, but we have to thank Mercedes for coming out strong and taking P1-P2 ,” said Andrea Stella . “Without that, Ferrari would have been a bigger threat .”

At one point in the race, Ferrari were holding second and third places, while Piastri was only ninth. If that had continued, the gap between McLaren and Ferrari could have been reduced to just 14 points , suggesting things could have been much worse for McLaren.

McLaren will continue their campaign in Qatar and Abu Dhabi , where they are expected to perform better. Andrea Stella is hopeful that the team will have a chance to score points and improve their standings. He stressed that the season is becoming more competitive than ever.
