Anthony Edwards Calls Out Timberwolves for Being ‘Soft,
The Minnesota Timberwolves’ struggles this season have frustrated fans and players alike, with Anthony Edwards not holding back his criticism following the team’s latest loss. After a disheartening defeat against the Sacramento Kings, which saw the Timberwolves blow a 12-point lead in the final seven minutes and succumb to a 29-6 run, Edwards vented his frustrations with both his team and the fans.
Edwards: “We Soft as Hell as a Team”
In a fiery postgame rant, Edwards criticized the Timberwolves for their lack of unity and toughness:
“We thought defense was our identity, and it’s not looking like that. … Internally, we’re soft as hell as a team. Not to the other team, but like internally, we’re soft. Like we can’t talk to each other. Just a bunch of little kids out there.”
Edwards highlighted the team’s inability to communicate effectively, adding that their struggles stem from having “different agendas” on the court.
“Everybody got a different agenda. … That’s one of the main culprits of why we’re losing. Everybody out there has their own agenda, like their imagination of what’s supposed to be going on and what’s really happening.”
Fans Booing at Home: “That’s So F—in’ Disrespectful”
Edwards also addressed the frustration of Timberwolves fans, who booed the team during the game. He called the reaction disrespectful:
“The fans f—in’ booing us. That shit is crazy, man. We’re getting booed in our home arena. That’s so f—in’ disrespectful, it’s crazy.”
What’s Going Wrong for the Timberwolves?
The Timberwolves are now 8-10, losing seven of their last nine games and falling far short of expectations set by their conference finals run last season. Key issues include:
- Defensive Decline: Last season, the Timberwolves were an elite defensive unit. This year, they’ve dropped significantly, surrendering over four more points per 100 possessions. Despite having defensive standouts like Jaden McDaniels and Rudy Gobert, the team lacks the energy and cohesion that made them formidable last year.
- Offensive Struggles: The offense, led by Edwards’ 28 points per game on 43% three-point shooting, is sluggish and cramped. The absence of Karl-Anthony Towns has worsened spacing issues, with defenses focusing heavily on Edwards.
- Internal Disconnect: Edwards’ comments about the team’s lack of communication and unity highlight deeper structural and cultural problems within the roster.
What’s Next for the Wolves?
With a grueling schedule in the unforgiving Western Conference, the Timberwolves must turn things around quickly to avoid falling into play-in contention. Edwards, who has emerged as the team’s leader, will need to rally his teammates to rediscover their identity on both ends of the court.
