Karlsson’s Late Goal Powers Golden Knights to Come-From-Behind Win Over Utah Hockey Club
Karlsson’s Clutch Performance Leads to Victory
William Karlsson delivered a decisive performance, scoring the go-ahead goal with 1:18 remaining to lift the Vegas Golden Knights to a 4-2 win over the Utah Hockey Club at Delta Center. His clutch play helped secure a second consecutive win for the Golden Knights, extending their solid form.
Resilience and Team Effort Drive the Win
“We stuck with it and eventually got rewarded,” said Karlsson after the game. “We don’t like to give up in here, and then when you have a good goalie, that helps a lot.” Karlsson’s deflection of Kaedan Korczak’s shot gave Vegas a 3-2 lead, and with just 29 seconds remaining, he sealed the victory with an empty-net goal.
Korczak and Hertl Contribute to the Victory
Korczak praised the Golden Knights’ strong third-period play: “We were obviously much better. They didn’t have too many chances. We kind of found our game there toward the end.” Tomas Hertl played a pivotal role in the victory, scoring twice, while Jack Eichel contributed two assists. Goalie Adin Hill was outstanding, making 32 saves in the win.
Coach Cassidy’s Focus on Team Resilience
Coach Bruce Cassidy commended the team’s resilience, particularly their ability to recover after a challenging first period: “They certainly had their way in the first, especially the last half of it. We started to build our game in the second and third, and eventually we found it. Our intensity level was good and we started executing better.”
Utah’s Strong Start, But Missed Opportunities
Despite their early lead, the Utah Hockey Club (7-7-3) couldn’t hold on to the advantage. Logan Cooley and Mikhail Sergachev scored for Utah, while goalie Karel Vejmelka made 25 saves. Coach Andre Tourigny reflected on his team’s missed chances: “We had our chances. We had great opportunities throughout the game. They just hung in there, didn’t have their A-game in the first period, and eventually, they took control.”
The Game’s Turning Points and Key Plays
The game started with Utah leading 1-0 in the first period, as Cooley scored off a pass from Matias Maccelli. Sergachev extended the lead to 2-0 with a power-play goal in the second period. However, the Golden Knights responded with two power-play goals from Hertl to tie the game.
Cassidy’s Reflection on the Game’s Momentum Shift
Cassidy noted the importance of getting a positive play to shift momentum: “You need something good to happen. It finally did, and that gets you going. Then you realize, ‘Hey, our goaltender is cooking tonight. We’re down by one, let’s go get this thing.'”
Karlsson’s Late Heroics Solidify the Victory
Karlsson’s goal in the final minutes, combined with the Golden Knights’ improved play in the second and third periods, led them to a come-from-behind victory. This win demonstrates the team’s ability to stay focused under pressure, continuing to show resilience and strength in the current season.
