On Thursday night, Brandon Miller and LaMelo Ball led the Charlotte Hornets to a thrilling 123-121 overtime win  over the Detroit Pistons. Despite squandering a 20-point lead in the third quarter, the Hornets held strong to secure the victory.

Brandon Miller Shines with Career-High 38 Points

Brandon Miller was the standout  performer of the night, setting a career high with 38 points. Miller was exceptional from three-point range, making 8 of 12 attempts, including two clutch shots in overtime. In addition to his scoring, he contributed eight rebounds, four assists, and four steals, showcasing his well-rounded game. His final three-pointer with 32 seconds left in overtime gave the Hornets a six-point lead, essentially sealing the win.

LaMelo Ball’s Impact Despite Foul Trouble

LaMelo Ball also had an outstanding performance, scoring 35 points and adding nine assists. Although he struggled with foul trouble, picking up three fouls in the first quarter, he bounced back in the second half. Ball scored 13 of the Hornets’ 15 points during a critical third-quarter stretch. Despite fouling out just seconds into overtime, his overall leadership  kept the team in control during the game’s crucial moments.

Detroit’s Rally and Injury Concerns

The Pistons, led by Cade Cunningham, who had 27 points and 10 assists, fought back from a significant deficit to briefly take the lead. However, Cunningham suffered a hip injury with 48 seconds left in regulation after being fouled by Grant Williams. Despite hitting two free throws, Cunningham had to leave the game, leaving the Pistons without their star player. Jalen Duren, who struggled throughout the game, finished with just five points and nine rebounds.

A Historic Night for the Hornets

This game marked a franchise milestone as Miller and Ball became the first players in Hornets history to score 35 points in the same game. Their performance highlighted their potential as a dynamic duo. The Hornets will now face the Milwaukee Bucks in their next game, while the Pistons head to Orlando.
