Daniel Dubois Open to Fighting Jake Paul: “Money Talks”
Heavyweight boxing champion Daniel Dubois has expressed openness to facing Jake Paul, the YouTuber-turned-boxer, admitting: “Money talks.”
After convincing heavyweight legend Mike Tyson to come out of retirement, Jake Paul defeated the 58-year-old boxer via unanimous decision in November. The fight, with a 31-year age gap between the two fighters, drew heavy criticism from traditional boxing purists. However, the event, streamed on Netflix, was a massive commercial success, paving the way for Paul to attract attention from both professional boxers and MMA stars alike.
Even Daniel Dubois, 27, who is set to defend his IBF heavyweight title against Joseph Parker in Saudi Arabia next month, has hinted that he might face the “Problem Child” someday.
Aiming to Unify the Heavyweight Titles
For Dubois, the top priority remains defeating Joseph Parker and then unifying the heavyweight titles in a rematch with Oleksandr Usyk. However, he hasn’t ruled out a potential fight with Paul, especially since the two have already exchanged messages on social media.
When asked why he reached out to Paul, Dubois smiled and said:
“You have to, mate. He had his chance with Mike. [It’s] for the boxing community, to make some noise.”
Money or Honor?
When questioned if fighting Jake Paul would be “easy money,” Dubois candidly replied:
“Exactly, easy money, as Floyd [Mayweather] says.”
With a grin, he added:
“That would be a crazy shot, wouldn’t it? Giving a YouTuber a chance to become the heavyweight champion of the world. In reality, no. Let’s see, money talks.”
Other Potential Opponents
Besides Jake Paul, Dubois could also face Wladimir Klitschko, the 48-year-old former heavyweight champion, who is rumored to be considering a comeback. However, Dubois mentioned that talks on this front have gone silent:
“They’ve talked about it, but it’s been quiet now. I guess he’s lost interest with me in the mix.”
