The Philadelphia Eagles have emerged as one of the top NFL teams once again, entering Week 13 with a 10-2 record and leading the NFC East. This marks the third consecutive year they’ve found themselves in the NFL’s elite tier. After a heartbreaking late-season collapse last year, which ended with a wild-card-round exit despite a promising 10-1 start, the Eagles are determined to make sure the past doesn’t repeat itself. Their 24-19 win over the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday highlighted the team’s new energy and solidified their position as one of the league’s most formidable squads.

Eagles Moving On from Collapse

Following last year’s disappointing finish, the Eagles have a clear message for 2023: “Last year is over.” Head coach Nick Sirianni emphasized that the team has learned from its previous mistakes, using last season’s struggles as motivation to avoid similar pitfalls this year. “We learned what we needed to learn from last year,” Sirianni said, adding that this season’s roster has gelled much better. The Eagles’ current 10-2 record is proof that the team has grown from its past experiences and is focused on finishing strong.

A Slow Start, but Strong Finish

The Eagles faced an uphill battle early in the game against the Ravens, falling behind 9-0 in the first quarter. The team’s offense struggled early, managing only 22 yards in the first quarter, with quarterback Jalen Hurts completing just 1 of his first 5 passes for a mere 5 yards. However, the Eagles’ defense stood tall, stifling Lamar Jackson and the Ravens’ offense for most of the game. With three sacks of Jackson and a strong showing from rookie cornerback Cooper DeJean, the Eagles managed to contain running back Derrick Henry and secure the win.

Eagles safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson explained the team’s approach: “We just stick to the plan and let the game unfold.” The Eagles’ defense allowed just three points until the Ravens’ garbage-time touchdown. The win reinforced the importance of playing disciplined football and sticking to the game plan, despite a rough start.

Balanced Team Effort

The Eagles’ victory over the Ravens was a collective effort in all three phases of the game. Despite a quieter game from running back Saquon Barkley (107 yards and a touchdown), Hurts remained steady, completing 11 of 19 passes for 118 yards. Sirianni pointed to Hurts’ efficiency, noting his high quarterback rating of 114.4 during the Eagles’ eight-game win streak.

Even injured players like wide receiver DeVonta Smith have contributed, offering leadership from the sidelines. Smith is often the first to encourage Sirianni to leave the offense on the field during crucial fourth-down situations, showing his commitment to the team’s success. Additionally, punter Braden Mann was instrumental in the victory, pinning the Ravens inside their 5-yard line on three separate occasions. His ability to consistently pin Baltimore deep in their territory played a significant role in limiting the Ravens’ scoring opportunities.

Focus on Physicality and Consistency

The Eagles’ success during their current win streak has been built on a foundation of physical play and consistency. Head coach Sirianni and his coaching staff continue to emphasize the importance of making in-game adjustments and learning from previous mistakes. This disciplined, physical approach has made the Eagles one of the most difficult teams to beat, as they pride themselves on both offensive and defensive execution. With their newfound team chemistry and determination to avoid last year’s collapse, the Eagles are setting themselves up for a strong finish to the 2023 season.
