George Kambosos Jnr, the former lightweight champion, has signed a major co-promotional deal with Matchroom Boxing, DiBella Entertainment, and his own Ferocious Promotions. The Australian star is set to move up to the junior welterweight division and aims to make his return in early 2025, pursuing a second world title.

A Career Defined by Highs and Challenges

Kambosos gained global attention in November 2021 with a shocking upset against Teofimo Lopez Jnr at Madison Square Garden, capturing the unified lightweight titles. However, his reign ended in June 2022, losing the belts to Devin Haney in Melbourne, Australia, and again in their rematch later that year.

In 2023, Kambosos secured a contentious majority decision win over Maxi Hughes in Oklahoma but faced a major setback in May, when he was stopped by Vasiliy Lomachenko for a vacant title at RAC Arena in Perth. Despite the ups and downs, Kambosos boasts an impressive 21-3 record (10 KOs) and remains a key figure in the boxing world.

New Division, Fresh Challenges

Kambosos announced his move to the 140-pound division, a highly competitive weight class. “Being signed to Matchroom Boxing gives me the platform to continue my boxing legacy,” said Kambosos. “I’ve had success on Matchroom shows, including my win over Teofimo Lopez. This partnership will help me achieve my goals at junior welterweight.”

Matchroom chairman Eddie Hearn praised the signing, noting Kambosos’ ability to perform on the biggest stages and his role in the rapid growth of boxing in Australia. Hearn hinted at an exciting potential matchup between Kambosos and fellow Australian star Liam Paro, provided Paro wins his fight on December 7.

Industry Leaders Back Kambosos

Lou DiBella, president of DiBella Entertainment, commended Kambosos’ relentless drive. “George has always embraced the toughest challenges,” DiBella said. “This collaboration with Matchroom ensures he’ll face the best fighters at 140 pounds while continuing to elevate Australian boxing on the global stage.”

What lies ahead for Kambosos?

Details of Kambosos’ next fight remain undisclosed, but fans can expect thrilling matchups in the stacked junior welterweight division. With his unwavering determination and support from top promoters, Kambosos is set to make a significant impact in 2025.

As Kambosos transitions to this new chapter, his focus on reclaiming championship glory reinforces his status as one of boxing’s most compelling figures.
