According to Russell, the track surface at Losail , Qatar, was expected to be more compatible with Mercedes’ W15 package, especially with the new engine components . He believed that the cooler weather and flat surface conditions could give the team a better chance to shine .
“We didn’t expect to do well in Las Vegas,” Russell admitted.
“I even considered saving the new engine for Qatar.”
