Is Novak Djokovic predicted to have a stellar 2025?

Mark Woodforde, a multiple Grand Slam doubles champion, has made an optimistic prediction that Novak Djokovic will win the Australian Open and have a successful 2025 season.

Challenges Faced by Novak Djokovic in 2024

2024 has been a challenging year for the Serbian tennis player. Although he secured only one title, it was the highly sought-after Olympic gold medal in Paris, a goal he had pursued for many years. However, it also marked the first time since 2017 that Djokovic did not win a Grand Slam title, with Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz sharing the four major titles.

The Rise of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz

Jannik Sinner made a significant impact with his first Grand Slam victory at the Australian Open and then went on to win the US Open. Meanwhile, Alcaraz defeated Alexander Zverev in the French Open final and overcame Djokovic at Wimbledon.

Djokovic’s Bold Decision to Appoint Andy Murray as Coach

To prepare for the new season, Djokovic made a bold decision by appointing former rival Andy Murray as his coach. Although Murray didn’t accompany him at the Brisbane International, this collaboration is expected to yield significant results in the key tournaments, thanks to Murray’s experience in high-pressure situations.

Djokovic’s Start to the 2025 Season

Djokovic began the 2025 season by playing doubles with Nick Kyrgios, but unfortunately, they were eliminated in the second round after a dramatic tiebreak. However, Woodforde believes Djokovic will bounce back stronger. In an interview with Tennis365, he said, “I expect Djokovic to return to the form of 2023, when he won three Grand Slams and maintained the World No. 1 ranking.”

Woodforde’s Explanation of Djokovic’s 2024 Performance

Woodforde also explained that Djokovic’s dip in form in 2024 was due to a lack of time to recover after a busy 2023 season. However, the break at the end of 2024 is expected to prepare him for the new challenges ahead. “I believe Djokovic will give his all at the Australian Open and may even win it. I witnessed his magnificent performance in Paris, where he won the Olympic gold medal. That was Novak at his absolute best.”
