Lauren Price, the reigning WBA welterweight champion, is gearing up for what could be the biggest fight of her career. While an epic unification bout with fellow Brit Natasha Jonas is almost locked in for 2025, Price has unfinished business to handle first. On December 14 in Liverpool, England, she’ll defend her title against Bexcy Mateus, a Colombian contender known for her knockout power.

Price vs. Mateus: A Clash of Styles

Price, who holds a perfect 7-0 record, faces a formidable challenge in Mateus, who also sports a 7-0 record but with an impressive six knockouts. Price isn’t taking her opponent lightly. “She’s tough. She’s got power,” Price shared on talkSPORT. “But I’m confident in my game plan. I’ll stick to what I do best and get the win in style.”

This fight marks Price’s first appearance in the ring since her dominant victory over Jessica McCaskill in May, where she claimed the WBA, IBO, and Ring Magazine titles. While the extended break could pose a risk, Price is laser-focused on shaking off any rust and proving why she’s one of the best in the division.

Natasha Jonas Faces Her Own Battle

On the same card, IBF champion Natasha Jonas will face WBC titleholder Ivana Habazin in a high-stakes unification bout. If both Price and Jonas emerge victorious, it will pave the way for a monumental all-British clash in 2025—a fight that could headline a major event and elevate women’s boxing even further.

“This fight is huge for British fans,” Price said. “I’d love for us to headline, maybe even on an all-female card. But first, we’ve both got to take care of business in December.”

Women’s Boxing Is Back in the Spotlight

Women’s boxing has been making waves again, thanks to thrilling bouts like Katie Taylor’s recent win over Amanda Serrano. A unification fight between Price and Jonas would keep that momentum going, drawing fans and attention to the sport.

For now, Price is focused on ending the year with a win. “This fight is about staying active and making sure I’m ready for the next big step,” she said.

On December 14, all eyes will be on Liverpool to see if Price and Jonas can set the stage for one of the most exciting moments in women’s boxing history.
