Lonzo Ball Offers Candid Advice to Brother LiAngelo on NBA Dreams
Lonzo Ball, currently with the Chicago Bulls, and his younger brother, LaMelo Ball, of the Charlotte Hornets, are established names in the NBA. However, the middle Ball brother, LiAngelo Ball, is still striving to make his mark in the league. Despite his efforts, LiAngelo has yet to secure a spot on an NBA roster.
During a recent appearance on Angel Reese’s podcast, Unapologetically Angel, Lonzo offered some unfiltered advice to his brother about his basketball future.
Lonzo’s Brutally Honest Advice
Lonzo didn’t sugarcoat his assessment of LiAngelo’s chances:
“I think his path is overseas, it’s been overseas,” Lonzo said. “You got your shot in Summer League with the Hornets. You were killing. You capitalized on that shot. But if it’s not translating, are you gonna sit in the G [League] on the bench, or go overseas somewhere nice and put up 30?”
LiAngelo has reportedly turned down offers to play overseas, choosing instead to pursue opportunities in the G League. He last played for the Greensboro Swarm, the Hornets’ G League affiliate, from 2021-2023.
LiAngelo’s Recent Playing History
LiAngelo Ball recently played for Astros de Jalisco in a Mexican professional league but appeared in only two games before suffering an injury. He returned to the United States to rehab, but his injury history and lack of sustained opportunities have made an NBA debut increasingly unlikely.
Still, LiAngelo remains committed to his dream, even as the odds grow steeper.
Lonzo Ball’s Own Comeback Journey
Meanwhile, Lonzo Ball has been working hard to get back on track after a series of injuries. He made a promising return to the Bulls this season after missing nearly two years due to knee issues.
Though he recently dealt with a wrist injury, Lonzo is back in the Bulls’ rotation. After missing 15 consecutive games, he returned during the Bulls’ matchup against the Orlando Magic, demonstrating his determination to overcome setbacks and reclaim his place in the NBA.
What’s Next for the Ball Brothers?
While Lonzo and LaMelo continue to thrive in the league, LiAngelo faces a tough decision: stay in the G League hoping for an NBA shot or explore opportunities overseas where he could shine.
One thing is clear: LiAngelo’s perseverance and love for the game remain unwavering, and his journey serves as a reminder that paths to success in professional basketball are rarely linear.
