Novak Djokovic Will Never Be Out of the Game

Novak Djokovic Will Never Be Out of the Game

Novak Djokovic has admitted to lacking motivation for most of 2024, but former world No. 7 Barbara Schett believes the Serbian legend has made the necessary mindset shift to prepare for the new season.

Over the past year, Djokovic faced a series of unexpected defeats and confessed to losing the desire to participate regularly in ATP Tour tournaments.

Redefining Goals for 2025

Schett notes that 2025 could mark the final year of Djokovic’s illustrious career, with a critical focus on achieving his major goal: the 25th Grand Slam title. This milestone would surpass Margaret Court, making Djokovic the player with the most Grand Slam titles in tennis history.

Schett, who reached the quarterfinals of the 1999 US Open and is now a correspondent for the 2025 Australian Open, believes Djokovic is the strongest contender for an 11th title in Melbourne.

“Last year, he won the Olympic gold medal and achieved that goal. At the time, he didn’t play much tennis and had a few unexpected losses. But this year, he wants to restart. He knows this could be his final year because he can’t keep going forever,” Schett stated.

Major Changes in Preparation and Determination

Djokovic has made significant changes, including partnering with Andy Murray, to gear up for the new season.

“Although he doesn’t need to prove anything to anyone, winning the 25th Grand Slam would be an extraordinary achievement. If anyone can do it, it’s Novak,” Schett added.

She also emphasized that the challenges will increase as Djokovic ages:

“It’s certainly not getting easier. He will feel the strain when playing five sets back-to-back. At 37, even with the best team around him to help him prepare, he will notice the difference when facing younger players like Carlos Alcaraz, who’s only 21.”

Djokovic Is Never Out of the Game

Schett concluded: “What I want to say about Novak is that I would never, ever count him out. He will always have a chance.”

As Djokovic prepares to begin his campaign at the 2025 Australian Open, he carries not only his personal aspirations but also the high expectations of fans as he aims for an incredible 11th title in Melbourne
