Transition After Sterling’s Legendary Tenure

Sterling, 86, retired in April after a remarkable 36-season run as the Yankees’ play-by-play announcer. His tenure included an incredible streak of 5,060 consecutive games, and his signature calls like “Theeeee Yankees win!” became iconic among fans. Sterling briefly returned to call postseason games, wrapping up his illustrious career after the Yankees’ loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2024 World Series.

Sims Brings a Wealth of Experience

At 71, Dave Sims is no stranger to the broadcasting world. He has spent the last 20 years calling Seattle Mariners games and has built an impressive resume that includes play-by-play for NFL games, NCAA basketball, and MLB. Sims has won multiple accolades, including three consecutive Washington Sportscaster of the Year awards (2018–2020) and two Emmy Awards.

“It’s great to be home,” said Sims, a New York native and former sportswriter for the New York Daily News. “I’m excited to join Suzyn Waldman and bring Yankees games to fans across the country.”
