As widely expected, Moore has agreed to terms with the Saints, stepping into the role of head coach, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero, and Mike Garafolo reported on Tuesday. The team later confirmed the hiring in an official announcement.

Saints Welcome Moore as New Head Coach

“At the start of the interview process, it was important to find a head coach who was the right fit for the New Orleans Saints organization,” said Saints owner Gayle Benson in a statement. “Through the search process, it became clear that Kellen is the right person to help us re-establish a winning program and culture that our fans are accustomed to and have come to expect. I would also like to thank Darren Rizzi for his service as interim coach and leading our team this past season. I am truly grateful to him.”

Saints general manager Mickey Loomis also confirmed that he personally called other head coaching candidates to inform them of Moore’s hiring.

“I would like to welcome Kellen Moore and his family to ,”New Orleans Loomis stated. “He is an outstanding communicator with the ability to lead people and has a clear vision for this football team. Through this head coaching search, we had the opportunity to meet with several impressive candidates, and I thank them for their hard work and preparation in this process.”

From Super Bowl Victory to Saints’ Sideline

Moore’s hiring comes just two days after he helped lead the Philadelphia Eagles to a dominant 40-22 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. As the Eagles’ offensive coordinator, Moore played a pivotal role in quarterback Jalen Hurts’ three-touchdown MVP performance, as well as Saquon Barkley’s historic 2,000-yard rushing season.

Now, he remains in the Big Easy but with a new challenge: turning around a Saints franchise that has struggled to find success in recent years.

“I am excited to join the New Orleans Saints and deeply appreciate the faith that Mrs. Benson and the entire Saints organization have placed in me,” Moore said. “I look forward to embracing the challenges ahead and am eager to get started. I would also like to thank the Philadelphia Eagles for an incredible 2024 season. I’m excited to begin this new chapter.”

Moore’s Rapid Rise to the Top

At just 35 years old, Moore’s coaching career has been a whirlwind. His journey has seen him make four stops in four years, but this will be his first time as an NFL head coach.

After serving as the Dallas Cowboys’ offensive coordinator from 2019 to 2022, Moore joined the Los Angeles Chargers in 2023 before moving to the Eagles for the 2024 season. In Philadelphia, he helped lead the offense to a top-eight ranking in both points scored and total yards.

His offensive acumen will now be put to the test in New Orleans, where the Saints are desperate to return to playoff contention. The franchise has not made a postseason appearance since 2021 and is coming off a disappointing 5-12 season that led to Dennis Allen’s firing.

Eagles Face Another Offensive Coordinator Search

While the Saints celebrate their new hire, the Eagles are left with a familiar problem—finding a new offensive coordinator. Moore’s departure means Philadelphia will enter the 2025 season with its fourth different offensive coordinator in four years.

Despite the constant changes, Hurts and the Eagles have remained one of the league’s most dangerous teams. Now, they’ll look for another offensive mind to help them defend their Super Bowl title.

Moore’s Mission: Rebuild the Saints

For Moore, the focus now shifts to rebuilding the Saints‘ identity. With a defense that has pieces in place and an offense that needs a new direction, his success in New Orleans will depend on how quickly he can implement his system and elevate the talent on the roster.

As the Saints begin a new era under Moore, fans in New Orleans will be hoping that his offensive expertise and leadership will finally bring the franchise back to its winning ways.
