The rematch between Usyk and Dubois is the “most natural rematch in boxing.” Is Dubois deserving? What do you think about this opinion?

As the boxing world eagerly anticipates the massive event set to take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on February 22, the spotlight is shining on several major fights. While fans are thrilled about the four-belt unification rematch between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol in the light heavyweight division, the heavyweight battle between Daniel Dubois and Joseph Parker has also generated significant excitement.
A High-Stakes Heavyweight Showdown
However, another major discussion point has emerged: the possibility of a rematch between Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois. According to Dubois’ promoter, Frank Warren, Usyk-Dubois II is the “most natural rematch in boxing.” Warren strongly believes that if Dubois can secure a win against Parker, the rematch with Usyk must happen.
Speaking on the Ariel and Ade Show on DAZN, Warren confidently stated, “If he [Dubois] wins, and I believe he will, that has to be the most natural rematch in boxing. We had that controversial moment with Daniel Dubois hurting Oleksandr Usyk, and looking at how Daniel has grown in his last three fights, he’s proven himself. He’s been the underdog before, but he wants to settle the score with Usyk. There’s no doubt it’s one of the biggest fights out there.”
Dubois Must Prove Himself Against Parker First
Despite Warren’s optimism, there is one major hurdle standing in the way of this anticipated rematch: Joseph Parker. Many experts, including Eddie Hearn, Alex Krassyuk, and Martin Bakole, have predicted that Parker will defeat Daniel Dubois and take his IBF title. If Parker wins in Riyadh, Warren’s plan for a Dubois-Usyk rematch will crumble.
However, if Dubois can secure a victory, the rematch becomes a logical next step. For Oleksandr Usyk, a second fight against Daniel Dubois would present an opportunity to become a two-time unified heavyweight champion. For Dubois, it would be a chance at redemption, proving that he has grown from their first encounter and that he deserves to be recognized as an elite heavyweight.
Can Dubois Overcome His Past Defeat?
The first encounter between Daniel Dubois and Oleksandr Usyk in August 2023 was shrouded in controversy. A key moment in the fight was Dubois landing a body shot that some believed was a legitimate blow, while others argued it was a low blow. The referee ruled it illegal, giving Usyk time to recover. However, after that, Dubois was unable to capitalize on any momentum, eventually being stopped and looking mentally defeated in the process.
Has Dubois truly evolved since that night? While he has shown improvement, many still question his mental toughness when faced with adversity. The rematch with Usyk would test whether he has grown stronger or if history will repeat itself.
At this stage in his career, Oleksandr Usyk is only interested in the biggest fights available. If he defeats Tyson Fury in their upcoming undisputed heavyweight title clash, would a rematch with Dubois even appeal to him? Given the history between the two, it is possible. However, Dubois must first prove he is worthy by defeating Joseph Parker in dominant fashion.
