Why Did Novak Djokovic Argue with His Wife?

Tennis legend Novak Djokovic has revealed that he had a disagreement with his wife, Jelena, about whether their children should have mobile phones.

“My kids still don’t have mobile phones, and my wife and I argued about it,” Djokovic shared. “The kids complain, ‘At school, everyone has one except us.’ It’s not easy, and this is reflected on other levels as well. If everyone does something, the herd tends to follow, and you’re expected to do the same. Well, it doesn’t have to be that way. This is where I think we’re different from others because we’re stubborn and active.”

Traditional Parenting Approach

Djokovic has consistently emphasized the importance of keeping his children active, as he aims to adopt a more traditional approach to parenting.

“Between the two of us, I’m the one responsible for their activities, sports, and healthy lifestyle,” Djokovic said during an interview with Tennis Channel. “Whether it’s tennis or anything else, the key is to stay active and spend time outdoors. So, I try to take them to play tennis with me every day, even on match days. I want them to be here with me.”

Djokovic married Jelena, his high school sweetheart, in 2014. The couple has two children: Stefan, 10, and Tara, 7.

Family as a Source of Motivation

Last month, Novak Djokovic celebrated his victory in the men’s singles tennis event at the Paris 2024 Olympics with his wife and children. This achievement completed his illustrious trophy collection after setting the record with 24 Grand Slam titles, solidifying his status as one of the greatest tennis players in history.

Recently, after a third-round exit at the US Open, Djokovic joined the Serbian Davis Cup team. Jelena and their daughter Tara were in attendance as Djokovic defeated Ioannis Xilas in just 45 minutes. The following day, Djokovic teamed up with Hamad Madjedovic to secure victory in the doubles match against Greek pair Aristotelis Thanos and Petros Tsitsipas.

At 37, Novak Djokovic continues to demonstrate his exceptional form, proving himself as a dedicated athlete and a devoted father committed to his family.
